Honeymoon With My Mother-in-Law

Newlyweds and a connecting door

A beach resort, one week into a marriage.

Tom and Ava are on their honeymoon when Ava's mother turns up unannounced. She says she wanted to be close at the start of her daughter's marriage. She has booked the adjoining room, with a connecting door. She predicts the marriage has less than a week left. Tom opens this Candy Shorts story by voiceover, and his first reaction to her is blunt. All three are adults, and the link between Tom and her is by marriage.

The two free episodes of Honeymoon With My Mother-in-Law

Episode 1 clocks in at 80 seconds, free to press play. Episode 2 clocks in at 36 seconds and opens after a registration that costs no money. The pair is lopsided, a full scene followed by a short beat, and Candy Shorts makes both count.

Episode 1: a drinks run and a connecting door

Tom's voiceover notices a woman at the resort, then puts a name to her: his mother-in-law. Ava is as startled as he is. Mom explains that she wanted to be near. She sends them both to wait while she fetches drinks, and compliments Tom on married life. The booking comes next, the adjoining room offered in case they need anything. When Ava leaves to run a bath, Mom stays behind. She says she traveled to see her daughter looked after in all respects.

Episode 2: a few lines, a hush

Tom protests that this is wrong, and she replies that he is here all the same. Tom raises the obvious problem, which is Ava. The reply is that she is well aware, and that is the appeal. His next worry is being overheard, and her fix is to stay quiet. The closing line is the hook: her wait began at the wedding.
